The Cantina del Barone winery, owned and managed by Luigi Sarno, is located near Avelino, in the Italian Campania region, south east of Naples.
The winery’s first vineyard was planted back in 1987, at the hands of Luigi Sarno’s father who, after having contributed his annual harvest to Mastroberardino each year, in 1996 took the initiative to vinify his own grapes. In 2008, after earning a degree in enology, Luigi officially entered the company and soon after his father fully handed over the reins to Luigi. This transition was marked by the replanting of half a hectare of the particle 928 vineyard to ensure better exposure towards the sun. This vineyard is divided into 2 plots: 2 hectares on one side of the road that produces the grapes for Fiano Paone and half a hectare on the other side of the road that produces the grapes for the Fiano particle 928.
Luigi’s style of farming and wine-making is aimed at the utmost respect for nature and this is underlined by his full conversion to organic farming methods. But Luigi’s respect for nature is also evidenced in his winemaking protocol which differs very much from other wineries in the same area. Luigi’s style here is one that aims to truly bring out the specific caracteristics of the local terroir in his wines. As a result the Cantina del Barone wines are characterized by strong vegetal scents accompanied by dried and smoked fruit.
