List of products by supplier: CANTINA DELL’ ANGELO

The Cantina dell’Angelo winery has been managed by the Muto family since 3 generations and it was Angelo, the last generation, who decided in 2008 to focus on making his own wine as opposed to contributing his grapes to the local consortium.

The vineyards of Cantina dell’Angelo are all located in the Tufo village in the Campania region in Southen Italy, just south east of Naples, one of only eight villages legally allowed to  produce the Greco di Tufo DOCG wine.

Greco di Tufo is arguably the region's most prestigious white wine, made predominantly from the grape variety that shares its name. The Greco di Tufo grape is a clone of Greco Bianco and is believed to have been introduced to Campania by the Pelasgians, an ancient people from Thessaly in Greece. The name Tufo refers not only to one of the villages from which the wine comes, but also the type of rock on which the village was built. In the case of Cantina dell’Angelo their vineyards are partially located in an area that used to be a Sulphur / Brimstone mine back in the year ‘800.

The vines from which Greco di Tufo wines are cultivated at an altitude of 450–500m where the cooler temperatures allow grapes to enjoy the persistent summer sunshine without overheating or having their photosynthesis shut down. This allows them to ripen without losing too much acidity, an effect magnified by the higher diurnal temperature variation here.
