The 3 classic grapes of the Chianti - Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino - but for this wine aged half in medium wooden barrels while other half was aged in cement. The result is a soft, rounded and wll balanced wine with an elegant nose and a long and persistent aftertaste.
The Montesecondo estate, owned by Silvio Messana, is found just outside the town of Cerbaia in the Tuscan hills not too far from Florence.
Silvio, together with his wife Catalina, took over the farm in 1999 after having moved back from New York. The farm had always been in the family but in the past the grapes were typically all sold in bulk to a local negociant. After having taken over the farm however Silvio and Catalina decided to make their own wine with their first release in 2000. What more, they decided that this wine was to be made in a biodynamical way, without the use of any chemicals and without the use of any added yeast or other additives and enrichers.
