A one-of-a-kind wine with a name that in Arab means "Clay". Clay that refers to the material the amphoras were made of in which the wine has aged. In this wine the 100% Sangiovese together with this particular way of aging makes a unique combination. A structured wine with hints of spices but which remains very pleasant and accessible.
The Montesecondo estate, owned by Silvio Messana, is found just outside the town of Cerbaia in the Tuscan hills not too far from Florence.
Silvio, together with his wife Catalina, took over the farm in 1999 after having moved back from New York. The farm had always been in the family but in the past the grapes were typically all sold in bulk to a local negociant. After having taken over the farm however Silvio and Catalina decided to make their own wine with their first release in 2000. What more, they decided that this wine was to be made in a biodynamical way, without the use of any chemicals and without the use of any added yeast or other additives and enrichers.
