Wine made with the grapes from Daniele Ricci’s oldest vineyard and harvested when slightly mature on purpose. The wine undergoes a short period of maceration after which the wine ferments in steel tanks and eventually ages in large barrels made of acacia wood. Acacia wood is special as it interacts much less with the wine, giving it its roundness but leaving it much less of the traditional ‘wood’ senses one typically finds with oak. The result is a wine with a color that is deep yellow, nearly leaning to orange. Traces of volcanic rock combined with hints of grapefruit and orange and herbal traces in the background. An intense, vibrant and pleasant wine without being opulent.
Ricci is a family owned and managed wine producer situated in the hills around Tortona, in Costa Vescovato to be precise. The Ricci family have been producing wine here since 1929 and since a large number of years they produce their wines in a complete organic and biologically-sustainable manner. All the wines that Daniele Ricci produces are truly remarkable products, but it is Timorasso wine, made of the Timorasso grape, that makes Ricci particularly unique. Timorrasso is a native local grape from this particular area which was rediscovered by Walter Massa a number of years ago and which has stimulated producers like Daniele Ricci to develop the Timorasso based wine(s) into a truly unique set of products.
