Barbera’s from the hills around Tortona are typically considered lesser cousins of the Asti or Langhe Barbera’s. But despite the fact that the grape is the same, this Barbera appears to be playing in a different championship, not so much in a lesser league. A very elegant and well balanced wine, with pleasant fruit and without the harshness sometimes found in some of the other Barbera’s.  An very enjoyable wine that is (dangerously) easy to drink.

Ricci is a family owned and managed wine producer situated in the hills around Tortona, in Costa Vescovato to be precise. The Ricci family have been producing wine here since 1929 and since a large number of years they produce their wines in a complete organic and biologically-sustainable manner. All the wines that Daniele Ricci produces are truly remarkable products, but it is Timorasso wine, made of the Timorasso grape, that makes Ricci particularly unique. Timorrasso is a native local grape from this particular area which was rediscovered by Walter Massa a number of years ago and which has stimulated producers like Daniele Ricci to develop the Timorasso based wine(s) into a truly unique set of products.
